Hello all,
Just got a great deal on a old merc OB. serial #1760175. What year is it? Any pointers on things I should watch for when I bring this thing back to life. Owner said it was running 2 years ago since then been in storage. It looks in good shape. Also has tilt and trim but buttons on it are labeled "up out in" not just up and down. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: old merc 115HP what year?

As far as the year, my list for Mercury 1150 (115hp) starts with 2836019 and that is for a 1970 motor. What color is the stripe on your motor? On the bottom cowling, what is the number like 1150 or 115?

As far as the trim bottons, up is up and in is down (They used to say in and out).

First thing is to chang e the water pump impeller cause after 2 years that one is shot. Also when you do get it running, don't baby it. they never liked less than 3000 rpm's for very long. Make sure that you have at least a 50:1 gas:eek:il ratio (I use about 48-49:1.

Have fun.

Craig

Hootie and Craig thanks for your info. It is a 6 cylinder. As far as the cowling color I am at work right now and will have to post that in the AM. On top of the motor in kind of a hand whole it has 1150 but on the side of the motor it says 115. It also has some thing about turbo spark or something like that will have to confirm that in the AM also.

Re: old merc 115HP what year?

Mornin all, here is some more info if anyone can solve my mystery. Serial#1760175, looking at back of motor in hand hole at top of motor it has "merc 1100 SS" both the upper and lower stripe are blue. looking at back again middle of motor it has "1150". Lower stripe has "115 HP" on each side of motor. Also on sides it has "thunderbolt ignition". Any help greatly appreciated.

Ok, that narrows it down. You have a 1965 MErc 1000 (100 hp). Some one has put several different cowlings on the motor.

Craig

Could it be that the top cowling has been changed? The other ones with the 115 on them look like they have been there all along, nothing mismatched. Or are you rating this by the serial number which would rule out all the other stuff I have wrote about. Don't mean to beat a dead horse just want to make sure so if and when I start getting parts and such I don't look like a fool. I can achieve this quite well on my own.

I looked at the serial number to get the information. To double check when you start to get parts take the number with you and make sure by having them look it up also. It's a good idea anyway. My list might not have all numbers.

Craig
