old merc wiring harness on newer merc motor

Hi Folks,

I am moving from a 1990 40hp mercury motor to a 2001 50hp mercury motor and want to know 1. if I can use my old harness and 2. the new motor has power trim/tilt (old one did not) .. do all wiring harnesses have the trim/tilt built in or will I need a new harness to manage the trim/tilt
