old motor

I just bought a motor and the owner told me it had been sitting for the past 5years. I took the cover off and the motor is very clean. The carb looks good and i can't see any problems. Is their something in the leg or anything i should do before trying to start it. I have a 1970 7hp. Sea King. Thanks again!

Is this another 7hp Sea King? Or is it some mystery engine?

same motor, just havn't had it the water yet. trying to do everything right the first time. I don't want to mess anything up.

Hi : when you start the first time look for the mist behaind the lower column this is mean that the wather pump its ok. if not stop the motor, and check it or look for.

I don't think I am going to be able to take the boat to the lake, but i would still like to try to start the motor. How far up the leg does the water have to be? Can i use a trash can or something? and of course i will take the prop off and leave it in neutral just in case.
