Whats your opinions on old motors (I have '68 9.5hp) and new oils available, like semi syns or full synthetics. I'm interested in the xd-50 & xd-100?

Most outboard oils today are backwards compatible except the ones made specifically for DFI / EFI engines. Some of theses do not mix well with gas.

XD-100 is for the new Evinrude E-tecs (Direct Injected) outboards and is intended to be run at 100:1 if the E-tec engine is calibrated to run it. You would be wasting money as this oil is very expensive and you'd have to run it at a 50:1 ratio. Even XD-50 and XD-30 are a waste from an economic standpoint in my view. You can buy Pennzoil full synthetic at WalMart for half that price. Your engine will run fine on plain oil TCW3 oil or a synthetic blend. Save the oil money and buy gasoline with it.

Neither XD-100, XD-50, nor XD-30 are NMMA TC-W3? certified. Evinrude does not have any oil certified TC-W3?.

It is an interesting quote on the back of my bottle of XD50 Synthetic Blend.

"Evinrude/Johnson XD50 is a PERFORMANCE ENHANCED synthetic blend oil that meets the specified demands of direct injection outboards and water cooled 2-cycle outboard engines that specify TC-W3 certified oils."

Doesnt say it is TC-W3 certified though. Interesting play on words.

The XD50 has the carbon guard additive. This is supposed to reduce carbon buildup on the rings, piston skirts as the engine runs. A nice feature on high hp engines, it may have little real value on a 9.5.
