Old prop has an "L" on it, CCW rotation?

Hi folks - I need to replace the prop on my Mariner 75hp 2-stroke motor (1995). I know the standard rotation for most single applications is right (CW), but looking at the prop I need to replace it has the following numbers on it:

13.5x17 9 L

The L has me scratching my head, is this is a counter-drive unit? How can I figure this out before I buy a new prop?

Thanks

If normal rotation, it will turn cw when driven by the powerhead in F gear. If a normal prop, it will be obvious that cw rotation will turn the prop in the direction necessary to produce forward thrust. A counter rotating engine setup for a dual installation, the prop will have to turn ccw by the powerhead when in gear. I don't personally know how a CCW engine is setup. I would suspect that the engine timing is setup to run the engine in reverse. Have been told that 2 strokes can go either direction. I don't know.

But if you are using a L prop you will need to replace it with one. To determine a L prop, look at the prop from the rear. The tips of the blades will be to the right. R prop will be to the left.

Standing behind the boat turn the prop clockwise will the blades be pushing water toward you or away.
With it in forward crank it while some one watches from behind does it turn clockwise standing behind?

Look at the pictures of props at the top of the page. They are R props.

Thanks for the replies folks.

Everything indicates this is a normal R prop. Standing behind the boat and turning the prop clockwise would push water toward me, i.e. forward thrust. I can't crank the motor when in gear, but if engaged in F the prop will only turn clockwise. Prop looks like all the pictures I've seen in my searches (and above). It all points to a normal clockwise prop, which is why the "L" marking is confusing...

Sounds like you are on the right track. like I said. It's not rocket science. If the blades are positioned as the props at the top of this page it is a normal right hand turning prop. Simple as that.
