Can anyone give me any information on an old Sears 3 HP outboard whose ID plate only gives me
T-642-13 and the number 6272729? I'd like to try to find a repair manual, but don't know where to start.

Re: Old Sears Outboard

you can find the cross refrence for your engine model on this page Edit: http://home.earthlink.net/~brixent/searsid.htm sorry about that , it will also give you your sears model numbe amd specs....as far as spark plugs take the number shown and go to wwww.sparkplugs.com and , cross refrence it there, most of the guys just use the tecumseh engine manual instead of a sears repair manual, some one should have link to the engine/carb manual if not PM me and I will show you where its located. its to early AM for me to do much more....I'm setting here talking with my titanium knee about taking another shot at bed and watching Rawhide. I can't convince this knee to go to bed. good luck, those sears Eska engines are great little runners and cheap to fix.

also try here http://search.ebscohost.com/ user name; marshall, password: public

drill down till uou find marine engines then look under Sears or Eska....just rememeber not all sears models are Eska made

Re: Old Sears Outboard

Thanks for the input mrcrabs. I will start looking for tecumseh manuals as suggested. I disassembled the motor a bit today and see that the shaft with the cam says tecumseh 30552, and a cover over the points also says tecumseh. After using enough penetrating oil enabling me to move the shaft relative to the assembly that holds the motor to the transom of the boat, I finally found the ID plate which says it is a model 217-58540, and serial number 105649. Any idea what year this motor is?

It is a 1970. Made by Eska. Techumseh made the powerhead for Eska.

Try going to the Sears online parts database. They have a pictures and part numbers for the various motor components.
