Hey guys i have a Older Suzuki 40hp outboard pullstart engine, Don't really know that much about boats bought this one about 5 weeks ago and its been working fine. Tried last night to go out and the engine would not start no matter what. when the engine did start it ticked over for 5 seconds then turned itself off. I done everything just the same as i have been doing with the throttle up, choke out and priming but still not luck. Does anyone have any hints ?? Please

Welcome to iboats :) ..... does the motor have a tiller handle or controls? Before attempting to start the motor you need to check if the ventilation cap is open on your tank and that the kill switch is in place .... then you need to squeeze the fuel bulb till firm, turn the throttle (if tiller to start position) pull the choke and pull about 2 - 5 times, push choke back in and pull same amount, and start the procedure all over again if motor doesn't run .....

Does it have correct spark plug? Is it gapped and torqued properly?
