I installed the MST Guardian on my fresh water cooled, 5.0L Mercruiser Alpha 1 this past spring. I have read some really good info on winterization but no one has ever posted anything regarding winterizing using his or her MST Guardian. The MST web site indicates that you can facilitate the winterization procedure using the MST Guardian but the web site (or installation instructions) doesn’t address the issue. I emailed MST and they did provide some winterization guidelines but I value your experiences and opinions. Has anyone used the MST Guardian to winterize (flush/drain/add antifreeze) his or her I/O? If so, please enlighten me. If not, I value your opinions.

For those of you that are not familiar with the MST Guardian flush device; it connects to both sides of the engine block using the drain plug holes and Tees into the water hoses that run to both manifolds (4 connection points). You connect the garden hose to the device, turn it on and it is suppose to completely flush engine, manifolds and risers. You don't run the engine while flushing. Seems to work pretty well.

tommays,

The winterization techniques described on the MST site was what John Darrah sent me in response to my email concerning winterization. I suggested that he put his response in the FAQ section of their website and he agreed.

I am looking for feedback from members that have actually winterized their engine using the MST Guardian. What was their experience? Did everything work out ok? Any problems? I'm just a little leery of not physically draining everything of water. I have always had outboards up to this point. This will be my first year winterizing an I/O.
