Old vs new design fuel pump? Merc 140 Fuel pump compatibility?

I am replacing a broken 1986 Merc 140 Alpha One with a working Merc 140. The old engine had the old design fuel pump. The replacement engine did not come with a fuel pump. I suspect that it may have had the new design fuel pump by the dirt and discoloration around where the gasket goes. Looking at pictures of the pumps, the old and new design look to have the arms that ride on a rocker that point either up (old design) or down (new design). Are they compatible on any 1986 Merc 140? If not, haw can I tell, when I put in my serial number the parts catalog will give me either choice...

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,....... I donno, But,.....

If you post the serial number, there's a good chance somebody else can figure it out,.......

Interchangeable. Just need a different pipe from the pump to the carb. DON'T go putting a length of rubber tube in, get the right METAL fuel line!
