Hello all,

I recently purchased an 1972 mercury 115 hp inline 6 outboard with a bad lower unit. I located a used lower unit off a inline 6 merc. 140 hp (not sure of year but 70's motor) and was wondering if the 2 are interchangeable? any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Zac

Re: Older 115 Mercury inline 6 Questions

man i have run into this so many times building up engines out 3 or 4 junkers... there are subtle differences in shaft lengths.. im positive it will bolt up just be sure you measure as close as possible driveshaft length...too short you rag the crank splines too long you take the endplay out of the crank just remember when you mix & match parts be prepared to do things 2,,,,,,,,,3,4,5,6, times i used to do a s***load of that so whoever i was working for could stick someone with it. NO MORE MORPHIDITES for me
