Older 50 fuel pump?

This is a bit of a two parter, I hope that's ok. First off I've been having problems nailing down the actual year of this motor since the serial # doesn't seem to come up on any of the charts. It is a Canadian built motor, so maybe that's the issue. The serial number is 7014680 and it is very clear. Alright, so my issue is that I'm not getting fuel delivery to the carbs. I can pull the inlet line off at the pump and get a strong shot of fuel with the priming ball but there is no fuel on the outlet port. Does this sound like a bad pump? I was under the impression that I should be able to get pressure through the pump to the needle and seats. Correct?

You should at least be able to pump fuel through the fuel pump with the squeeze bulb. If that's not the case, then pull the pump apart and see what's going on. Might have been "fixed" at some point and the check valves installed incorrectly. Not the first time I've seen some well-meaning tinkerer install something incorrectly and cause issues down the line...

Thanks for that. I did take it apart and there isn't anything glaringly wrong that I could see besides old gaskets and diaphragm. At the very least I would like to put a kit in or just buy a new pump if they are available. Back to the whole not knowing the year of this motor. Where would you suggest shopping for such an item besides eBay?

If you can't find it locally, then look right here on iBoats. OEM kit number is 23014A 1. Aftermarket kit is 18-7804, which is the one carried here.

Looks like your motor is a 1973 according to the listing at Maxrules (MasterTech) site.

Thanks again, I'll hopefully get this sorted quick and be back on the water. Cheers

Ok I think you may be onto something here. I installed my new kit in the pump and I still can't get fuel to flow through it using the priming ball. Unfortunately I don't have a manual and can't for the life of me find a detailed photo of how the check valves should sit.

I have no idea why that posted twice. I really suck at this stuff. Plus I can't figure out how to post an image from my phone since the files are too big.

With the pump opened up, you should be able to see which valve does what. If you see the flapper, that's the IN side. If you see the metal cage, that's the OUT side. Follow the hoses to see what should go in and out where.

Ok mine looks like your image and there are no other check balls or springs. And just to ask one more stupid question to eliminate any doubt; the cap that seals it all up should have the flattest side to the engine, correct?

Disregard that last question about the plate. It only fits one way. I recleaned, inspected and reassembled the pump and if I clamp it in my vice and gently blow compressed air through the inlet it will not blow through the outlet. Pretty stumped here.

How are the check valves in the carburetors? If they're stuck closed, they'll block off fuel flow.

Pulsing a bit of compressed air into the base while holding them in my fingers will allow them to cycle up and down. So they don't seem stuck.

Oh, I just noticed that you said carb valves. I tested the pump on the motor at the outlet, so pre-carbs. Still with no flow.
