Found a 1984 32' Marinette, twin chryslers, appears to be in excellent condition. Very clean appearing and engines are fresh water cooled with abt 600 hours reported.
Broker says only problem is boat has been hauled out for four years and not recommissioned for that period. Not sure who did the layup. Says owner out of area, no time ergo cut the price to 15K, clmg value of 35K
Been used to IOs, looking for bigger boat -size does matter - but wonder what 4 years with engines not run, transmissions not used, electronics and cutlas bearings, etc/ Any thoughts?

If in wrong furum transfer me there.

Thanks, in advance

Re: older boat

I think I would have them get her up and running. Or if your seriously interested consider paying someone to do it for you.

Re: older boat

Sometimes a boat or a car for that matter get more wear on them sitting then if they were being used. Rubber parts dry rot, shafts rust where the seals ride and get chewed up when it starts turning, bearings and gears that are not submerged in grease and depend on whatever they are in turning to be lubricated tend to rust or pit, exhausts like to corrode from the inside out, I’m not saying this happens in every case but it can happen, the possibilities are endless. Not sure of the lay up would make me all the more weary, did anyone start this thing up every now and then to keep things lubricated at least? I’d tread carefully. Like Real Poor said spending a few hundred bucks now can save you a lot of heartache later, the worst that could happen is you saved yourself from spending $15K + if it turns out that the thing has serious problems that you didn’t know about.

Hire a professional surveyor do his thing and not one selected by the broker. Remember the broker's job is to get money from your wallet.
