Older DF25 Jet question

Hi,

I have an older DF25, (I think early 80's). Runs but idles like a bear and I hope to be able to get it so do better. There is a jet you can remove from the outside top of the Carb and it looks as though it should have a tiny hole going all the way through, (from top to bottom), but it does not. I was thinking it may be clogged and this is the source of the rough idle. Anyone familiar with this jet who may know if it has a hole going from top to bottom?

Photo of Jet attached.

Thank You

Re: Older DF25 Jet question

All the brass jets I have seen are drilled straight through, so I would have to say your should be also.
But I have never looked at a DF 25.
If that is plugged solid the I would be looking at the rest of the passages real close also

Re: Older DF25 Jet question

Also have never worked on the DF25 but if thats the pilot jet from the top of a Mikuni carb, it's meant to be plugged at the top. Fuel enters from the bottom and exits through the cross-drilled holes in the side of the jet. 99yam40 is correct about a thorough cleaning of the carbs.

Re: Older DF25 Jet question

Thanks for the replies. Yes it does not seem to have the hole all the way thru from top to bottom. I soaked the entire carb in chem-dip and sprayed everything out with compressed air and sea trialed. I think the motor just has a tendency to run a bit rough at idle. I am comparing to a 8hp Tohatsu 2 Stroke which idles quite well and down for trolling.

During the Sea Trial the 25HP Suzuki popped out of gear several times under load. Afterwords I pulled the lower unit and discovered that there appears to be moisture getting into the lower unit gear case and a small piece of metal was in the gear oil -- not good. . It is missing a seal or something under the water pump and it looks like someone prior had to "pry" the lower unit off. I think it was that "prying" that damaged the area under the water-pump because someone fabricated a pin to keep in place very dry seal. At this point rather than try to repair the lower unit which had moisture and one metal piece at the bottom I have found a doner parts motor with hopefully a good lower unit.

Curious if anyone has an experience with the early Suzuki 25HP. Getting to be a bit of a dinosaur but was hoping if I can get her running good to get a least a season or two out if her til my piggy bank is full for something newer.

Thank You
