'76 85 hp 'Rude. When it comes to testing spark on one of these 4 cyl engines, how much voltage should be comming from each coil? Does this change at different RPM's? How do you check for spark strength, via multi meter?

Test for spark on your engine with all plugs removed, using a tester that will allow a setting of 7/16" gap. The spark should jump the gap with a sharp blue snap. It is necessary to turn 300 RPM to fire properly on your ignition system which requires a fully charged powerful battery.

A good tester will allow you to see spark from all cyinders. You can make a simple one with a dry board and nails, commercially available units are more costly: http://www.iboats.com/Marine_Store/...**********.311454701--submit.x.18--submit.y.7

You need a dedicated volt meter to measure actual voltage. It will generally run about 30,000 + volts.
