So i have an older 7.5 hp merc here,
7106738 - serial number
What happen is one of the parts was stuck, so someone was forcing the shifter and then the SECTOR GEAR has become unmesshed with the SECTOR GEAR, SHIFT SHAFT ... that or it is broken but i don't think, the sector gear isn't supposed to be a perfect circle full of teeth is it ? I don't think so because the shift shaft part only needs to go so far...
anyways the last guy that was helping me pushed really hard and it jumped some teeth, so now i don't think it would be messed right.
Problem is I don't know how to take apart the shift linkage in there to get to reset it and so far I can't force it back... So i need to get this on the right tooth (so take it apart enough to do so) and then find out how to set it on the right tooth so it will shift right after .. hope you can help...
It's part 34 on this diagram that i need to adjust to the right tooth is in the right place i guess full at forward ?http://www.**********/parts/search/...D UP/BOTTOM COWL AND SHIFT LINKAGE/parts.html
