What is an old 80 h.p. "1974" w/a electrical problem worth? Maybe more for scrap? Motor is in great shape, but I can't get it to spark. Should I throw it on e-bay for a pick up only (parts)? Could be a good motor for someone.

motors that are pick up only rarely sell. i would try craigslist first if you want pickup only. that's a good motor. if it has good compression, it is worth fixing, or at least doing more investigation, why. i have a 1966 50, with no spark, that i am fixing to tear into.

What do you think would be a reasonable price to start, having a mechanically sound motor of course. W/an electrical prob. ?

Re: Older Merc. outboard $ ?

to be honest i would not pay more than $100 for a 1974 80 hp motor, that i did not know for sure whats wrong with it. also there was not an 80 hp made in 1974, it was an 850, 85 hp. the replacement parts are $288, $248, $36 just for an example.

what is the serial number on your motor, so we can find out exactly what you have?????
