I have a 1970 7 HP Eska. It has decent compression, good spark, and runs fine in neutral, but as soon as I put it in gear, it dies. My relatively uneducated first guess is a fuel problem (obviously), but if there is someone out there with detailed knowledge of this problem, I would love some advice on how to proceed.

Are sure the gear case is not seized?I think I recall the clutch can fail and cause problems.There are others with better knowledge
than myself.

Yeah, I'd check the gear box status first, then take the carb off, and see if it needs a fuel pump element, flapper valve, needle and seat, good cleaning, etc. Looks like you may have a viton tipped needle, also hard to come by. You might get part numbers from here;

then order parts from Certified Parts Corporation, vintage section;

You gotta call them, but they are the best place to get factory parts.
