Hi there,
i've just finished a re-seal job on a 400 hydromechanical stringer drive. I do not know if this is normal, but the lower gearcase makes a strange (whining? sounds indeed like a fishing rod mechanisme that is pulled out fast) noise when running. It think it is like the pinion gear running heavy on the forward and reverse gears. I measured the play on the driveshaft and it is about 0.6mm (yes, i'm European) (calculates around 0.025") So it shimm's ok. I read about this could be normal, but as it is the first Stringer drive i'm getting my hands on, i do not know if this noise is normal. The mechanisme shifts nice .
Thanks in advance
