OMC 1980 stringer stern drive won’t go up or down.

I replaced the tilt motor stopped working I did a oil and gear change clean out the gear clutch and checked the 2 fuses and the solenoids and still won’t move. Just clicks. What else can I check??

pull the tilt motor. most of the time the motor gets moisture in it. then it wont spin until you dry it out, sand the armature, and re-assemble.

put a screwdriver in the coupling when you have the tilt motor off and make sure you can turn it and wind the drive up and down. I always put 2 gasket/shims on the tilt clutch cover to keep the gear from binding. For electrical, also sand the wire ring terminals shiny and clean on the relay.

Was the tilt motor installed when you pushed the worm and shaft back in the housing? If so then the plastic thrust washer is binding against the hammer blow coupling.

grease the trunnion bearings too
