OMC 2.3 Oil Change Problem

Last week as a part of winterizing I was doing an oil change for the first time on my Bayliner. I had an electronic oil extractor that was powered by 12v with 2 tubes one goes into dipstick other into empty jar. Now the problem was it was not sucking much oil, maybe 20% oil the rest was air... First I thought that the extractor was broken so I tested it ( tried sucking oil out of jar and it worked perfect). It literally it took me 3 hours to extract 4 liters of oil. Is this normal for this engine? Or I'm missing on something. Thanks

If your engine has the hose bib fitting at the top of the dipstick tube, get a pump that screws onto that. The pumps that use a skinny tube that go into the dipstick have the problems you discovered especially if the oil isn't warmed.

It does not look like there is any thread inside or outside of the dipstick tube... However this is a rebuilt engine so it might not be an original tube... Anyone can take a picture of their dipstick tube please?

Mine's an older unit ('72), but the type of "top" he's talking about you can see in this picture:


Toward the bottom right of the photo, you can see the dipstick and the oil drain connection next to each other.

Mine has a different dipstick, which looks like a car dipstick, no thread on it Now it all make sense. Thanks everyone
