OMC 2.3L Core Plug Size

I need to replace the core plugs on my OMC 2.3L on my 1990 four winns 170 freedom. I believe there are only 3 on the block. I checked with my local marine parts store and they said they could not order them and to check auto parts stores. Im shopping around but I dont know what size will work, anyone have any info? No results were found by the search function.

Have you compression-tested this block to make sure it's not cracked? If not, plugs may be a waste of time.

Nope, nothing has been checked on it yet. I wanted to start with replacing the plugs first, get it going on some muffs and see if I have any water in the oil and then go from there.

Compression test takes less time and money. Borrow or rent a tester. In 20 minutes you'll have your answer.

Compression test takes less time and money. Borrow or rent a tester. In 20 minutes you'll have your answer.

In about 99% of the cracked blocks from failure to winterize, a compression test will not tell you there there is a cracked block. What you need to do is isolate the cooling system from the exhuast system and pressuize the cooling system to see if it leaks.

The rubber expansion plugs will work fine for these tests, or even to run on a hose to see if water gets in the oil.

I found its a 1 1/2" plug if anyone pulls this up in the search function later down the road.
