Hi, I got A 86 bayliner I/o bowrider it has a 2.1 Volvo penta engine and drive. I need to know if I can do a complete drive train swap. I can get a omc 2.3L engine, & omc cobra sx outdrive and controls from a 87 Sea Ray Seville. I want to see if this will fit my hull (transom). Thank's for any help in advance, Steve.

The VP transom keyhole is way bigger on your model of boat than the later SX Cobra keyhole. That swap would need transom work. You will get more detailed comments soon on what all this swap entails.

Thank's for the info. I was looking to get a different set up. The parts for the Volvo engine are a little pricey compared to the omc engine.i would get part of the transom of sea Ray as I could use that as a template. But I never tried to redo a transom sounds like a pain to do.

the OMG pinto motor prices are just as high as the volvo penta parts, and its a major step backwards in technology

I would avoid both the pinto motor any any 4-banger volvo motor myself. Then again, i would really avoid any 70's, 80's or 90's bayliner just because of build quality

Yep, I know the bayliner's are not a great quality of a boat, but that's what I have. Lol. I going to stick with the Volvo for now, I not ripping out good transom. Is the Volvo a reliable engine though? I figured going to the omc would be a step up. I'll get the Volvo up and running should not be to bad.
