In all of the OMC 2 strokes there is the typical magneto or electronic ignition involving stator plate that moves with the throttle for timing. Some other brands don't have this stator plate assembly and the throttle just seems to turn the carb throttle lever. Is there a name for these other systems? This OMC forum has the most knowledge so Thought I'd ask.

Some Mercury's have a trigger that rotates to advance timing. Older Mercury's and older OMC's have a distributor that rotates to advance timing.

Not sure what you are asking.

Are there really outboard motors that do not have a timing advance? I think even my old Eska had one, bit not sure about that.

In theory an engine could have a ECM electronic controlled Advance, no mechanical advance needed

Early Merc 3L motors have no trigger...done thru ignition module and TPS on carb. Yammy 3 cly also. Junkrude makes some also...goes by Ficht, RAM and G2

Small Suzuki's in the 80's seem to have none. In a 9.9 called the Arctic model there are points and I guess what is a charge coil under the flywheel and coils on the back top of the motor and a carb. I don't know how the timing advances as there is no stator plate or advance mechanism I can discern? I have seen this set up in other early Suzuki's also.
