Get ready for a tale of a mighty sailing ship...I have a 1976 cobalt w/ OMC 235 hp sterndrive. On my last trip to the lake, I noticed that my tach had stopped working, and as I backed off the trailer, the drive stuck in reverse. I doubt the problem is related, but... anyway, after working the lever back and forth, several cursing fits, and finally shutting off the motor, the unit shifted into neutral, then forward. Two hours later, while the wife hovered arounf the dock, it stuck again and she somehow killed the motor, and then it wouldn't turn over!!! After swimming out, I had to use the old screwdriver post-to-post trick on the starter solonoid, got the motor started, finally found forward gear, and loaded the boat. Oh by the way, the rope broke on the winch while snugging up on the trailer. Nice trip to the lake, eh?? Anyway, any ideas on why the thing is sticking in reverse would be appreciated...
