Hey everyone,
I've got a 1979 Omega Daycruiser with a OMC 250 engine and a OMC 800 outdrive. My buddies and I call it the *****en '79. My dad was the original owner of this boat and sold to my uncle, who then sold to me. Both my dad and uncle are super anal about their toys so this boat is in great shape, but I can't help feeling that its lost power since I was on it 20 years ago.

The boat seems slow out of the hole to plane. I can't really tell what the problem is (I am fairly unexperienced with this sort of thing). At full throttle, when planed, the rpms reach about 3300 max. The prop is 14x19. The engine seems to run solid and idles great. I'm running with "premium" gas (91). I can't tell how fast I'm going when at max rpms since I have no speedo, but I would guess its about 35mph?

I remember this boat having a lot more balls so I'm wondering if there is anything in particular that could be wrong (probably a stupid question). The carb, plugs, and distributor cap are new.

I would be lucky to pull a skiier out of the water with more than 3 people in the boat right now but back in the day we easily pulled two skiiers out with 5 people in the boat with no problem .

Any advice? Should I just take it into a mechanic to have it looked over?

Thanks!

Hi Keith,
Yeah I have the trim all the way down for getting on plane. I adjust it afterwards.

WOT rpm's should be much higher - over 4000 rpm

things I'd check:

points and the ignition system in general
throttle linkage
fuel filter
prop hub
fluids in drive
