HI all,

Thanks in advance for the help. If any of you have been following my adventure with my blown 3.0, it's about to come ot an end. I found a 'leftover' never-installed year 2000 3.0 long block for $1200 near me, going to get it today. My boat is a 1988 with the original 3.0 it had when new. I am pretty sure everything will bolt up OK with the exception of the flywheel. Can anyone confirm for me whether I will have to get a different flywheel? I have heard that the 1988 flywheels were different than the newer ones. Will my 1988 flywheel bolt up to this 2000 crank or will I need some kind of retrofit flywheel?

Thanks!

Call Jack at Flagship Marine Engine Company 800-282-2840. They have the info and the things you need.

Good luck!

Re: OMC 3.0 tech question

Thank you, I called them and they were very helpful. He said that he thinks that the change in crank was in 1985 or 1986, so my 1988 flywhell should fit on the 2000 crank. The gentleman selling me the engine also said that from 1987-present are all the same, so these two people are telling me the same thing. Worst case if I need the retrofit flywheel it's 'only' $125 so I'm not in that bad of shape.

Thanks!!!

Glad it worked out. I know there was something about the coupler but wasn't sure about the years. I know Jack had modified some so they would work without changing the flywheel.

Good luck!

Re: OMC 3.0 tech question

Hi again.

Got my new motor sitting on a table in my garage! :)

I removed the bellhousing, starter, coupler and flywheel off the original motor last night and confirmed that the crank on the original motor out of my 1988 bayliner (which looks to be stamped as an 87) is different than the one on the new engine. Time to order that retrofit flywheel from Jack! :)

Thanks again for the help.
