I have an 87 OMC 3.0L 140HP I/O. When I started the motor up for the first time this spring I was getting water leaking from the bottom back of the engine. Is their a freeze plug in the back and bottom of the engine or could I have a leak in a seal?

There is no such thing on your engine called a freeze plug.I just have to get this OUT once in a while.(sorry).
Yes there is a core plug on the back (rear) of the 3L block that can come out,and cause a decent water leak.
DHP
PS: core plugs are there to get sand out of the block after casting it.

Freeze Plug......
Frost Plug........
Core Plug...........

Granted, They're there because of the need to remove the Sand from the Castings.....
They're All the Same Thing, Just different names......
And,
If you're Extremely Lucky, They'll pop out,+ Save a Frozen Block from further Damage............

Thanks for the information, know what do I need to do to replace the core plug? Do I need to pull the engine? Can core plugs be replaced?

Yep,it's a 2 inch plug.Pull the drive, pull the engine, pull the flywheel housing cover and you'll see it.Check the other plugs while you're at it.
DHP
PS use marine parts that don't rust.
