I have a 1988 four winns chevy 305 OMC, it starts fine when the engine is cold, but after its warm its starts hard. I have to go to wide open throttle for it to start. What would cause this...Not enough fuel or to much? Spark plugs are burning good. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Howdy,
I have one those Four Winns boats! (87 211 Liberator) It might help if you reveal what carb (4v/2v) you have and what model number the engine/drive package is. There's (4) 1988 5.0L models and (4) 1987 models. (You said "Chevy" and the 87 models might be FOMOCO)
If it's starting ok when cold, and not so much when it's hot, look at the top of the carb and determine if the choke plate is fully open once the engine is warm. (or fully closed )
There's a pretty good description on how to adjust the automatic choke on all the carbs installed on all the OMC engines.

Some have electric chokes and some use a "heat-tube" (I think all the 5.0L engines have "heat-tube" type chokes)
Again, it helps if you post your model number. OMC did change stuff from year to year.
