Hi friends,
please, could you help me, with distributor timing on my OMC 4.3 1989...

I swaped old point distributor for EST Delco marine type and with stroboscope pistol set up timing advance 6 initial and 18 for 3500 RPM.

It shifts and works as it should works....
But...
The engine now have 5300RPM at max...
And have little bit less power when I want to get "on" water...
Boat is even faster at max +8mph then before...

Engine starting is perfect, everything looks great, but this engine should have max 4300 RPM and it exactly had with old type distributor...
Im scared to rev it too much...

Im very sorry for my English... Im from Czech republic and not native speaker...

Thank you very much for every idea...

Thank you
Tomas

changing the distributor should not have change the RPM of the motor. verify the tachometer is reading correctly with a shop tach

Out of curiosity, what did you do to make the shift interrupt work with the new distributor.

Hi Bruceb58,
It's few months since our last com.
I left everything as it was (interupter switch and overstroke switch), unmount ESA module and connect that ground wire from new dist to switches...
It works like before... so it looks good...
Now only that RPM thing...
Engine sounds as before, and spark cables are probably at right conectors...

Again sorry for my English...
With greetings Tomas

 ... I was thinking the wrong way anyhow. We've got too many RPM. Sorry.

Have you checked the prop hub to see if it's slipping?
