I have a 1988 Four Winns Vista 245 that I've recently purchased, and the Cobra outdrive is toast. Motor is a 5.7 and in great condition. I can't find a used outdrive for the 5.7 motor, but I found a Cobra outdrive from a 4.3, will this work. Another option is the conversion kit and new motor from SEI, which will virtually tranfsorm my OMC to a Mercruiser outdrive, but I hear a lot of mixed opinions on the quality of the SEI outdrives.
Any help on this would be appreciated.

Re: OMC 4.3 Outdrive

If I ever have to replace outdrive lucky for me it works excellent. I will get the SEI adaptor and use the merc outdrive not the SEI might want to check that option out. Good luck and let us know how or what you do.....
And Welcome aboard.....:)

The gearing in the outdrive that was mated to the 4.3 will be all wrong for your 5.7. In your situation the SEI kit is the best way to go from my reading here. Where have you seen bad reviews??

I know nothing about this, but just looked on ebay and it's showing one thats for a 4.3 through 5.7.
That auction is by Doug Russel who is a major marine parts dealer. They have many drives and are selling the correct gear ratio one that you select.

That is why it says "Specify engine size at time of order".
