Hi guys i bought a cheap project 85 Cobia bowrider with a seized up 4 cylinder engine.Tried to remove enginge but shaft is seized on to flywheel coupler .I have tried everything to but no luck after 3 days. How would i lube the coupler/shaft when i can't see it.I've squirted a gallon of lube in there but no idea if i hit the coupler/shaft or not.I've already broken an ear from the intermediate housing.Have no idea how i'm going to get it seperated. If i remove the lower assembly of the stern drive and remove the nut and ball gear on the end of the drive shaft will the engine come out with the drive shaft attached.I am getting tired of the project already but have a lot of patience.lol

no, there's a tapered roller bearing on the inboard side that will not allow that to happen

What has worked for me:
remove outdrive, remove the 4 bolts on the seal/bearing retainer for the intermediate shaft and use heel bars to carefully pry on the backside of the ball gear to pull the intermediate shaft out the back.

i tried that also..no go .i'm afraid to break something if i pry too hard.I even tried an auto dent puller with the fitting placed behind the ball gear.

What if i get rid of that bearing somehow?Getting desperate here. :)

what some folks have done:
remove engine and intermediate and flip the whole mess upside down
then cut away the intermediate or whatever to be able to get a torch in at that coupler.

was thinking the same but guess what i can't get the shift cable to budge either.Everything seems seized up on this thing. the cable suppose to move through the intermediate?Wonder if its safe to break a hole in the top of the intermediate to get the torch in there while its still attached. Thanks for all the help so far by the way.

Well finally some good news.Got the cable out and lifted the egine and all out of the boat.On to the next step.Try and find a way to get the shaft out of that coupler. If i break a hole in the intermediate to get torch in will i have to find another intermediate or will this one still be ok?
