OMC 5.0 305 WOT issues

Have had issues for a few years now, boat runs good for a bit, then has trouble reaching WOT, will bog and surge when trying to achieve WOT. I’ve replaced nearly the entire fuel system, with no real improvements, other than slightly. Pulled my distributor cap today, boat has a pertonix flamethrower 2 coil, and pertonix igniter 2 kit in the distributor. I found that the pertonix plate was corroded a bit. The springs were rusted but weights appeared to move freely, and the shaft had some play in it. Do I just need to get a whole new distributor?

no, you may need a $5 distributor bushing (napa)

bog and surge are usually fuel system related.

have you tested the snti-siphon valve?
completely rebuild the carburetor?
what is your fuel pressure?

Yep. New anti siphon valve, checked tank for debris, replaced all fuel lines from tank and replaced the mechanical fuel pump as well. Also did rebuild carb last year. Do not have a fuel pressure gauge on the boat. Carburetor is a Quadrajet 4bbl. Fuel issues makes sense to me but since I’ve replaced everything it’s hard to think of what else it could possibly be with the fuel system.

did you pull the carb apart and chase every passage with a fine wire or fishing line? all it takes is one or two pieces of debris in the carb the size of ground pepper to cause a bad day.

how does the inlet filter on the carb look, or the fuel/water separating filter at the pump?

I did my best with the carb, but high possibility it could have been done better. The part that I dont understand is the boat running fine when I first use it, and slowly getting worse throughout the day. I have changed the inlet filter and water seperating filter numerous times. Im thinking about running the boat off of a external tank, and seeing if that fixes the problem. My tank appeared clean, but when dumping out the water/fuel filter, there are some black specs in the clear container I dump it into.
