Omc 5.0 gm dipstick

Hi I recently purchased a 87 bayliner with a5.0 liter GM engine. I changed the oil in it and put 6 quarts back in it. But I'm not showing any on the dipstick. The flat metal part of the dipstick measures 21 inches. Could someone tell me if maybe it has the wrong dipstick in it? Than

There has been many dipstick questions here this year with the same question. It comes down to the length of the dipstick and the length of the tube. Measure the tube and see where the end of the stick reaches, if its to high one of them have been replaced with the wrong one.

Thank you!! I will check that sometime today. I know the dipstick tube goes into the bottom of the oil pan where the drain plug normally is. I held the the dipstick along the outside of the tube and it didn't quite go half way down on the oil pan.
