OMC 5.0L Engine Cut Out

I was on the river today cruising along and all of the sudden the boat engine cut out. The engine is an OMC 5.0L I/O. Cut out right away, no sputtering or anything. Wouldn't start or even turn over when I tried to start it. When I got back to the slip, it started right up. Any idea what could have went wrong? Could it have overheated?

Doubt it was overheating. You would notice something like rough running, you might smell something.
Sounds like an electrical problem. Probably some connection to the ignition switch or a safety switch, like it thinks your outdrive to too far up...

Actually, overheating would potentially do that. Went kinda' that way for me last year. What year OMC ya' got?

When you started it at the slip, did it idle okay or was it running really rough?
