omc 5.7 ESA question plz help

btw great site. anyhow i have omc 5.7 i took the boat out the other day and when i was WOT for 2 minuets the boat would just bogg down so i thought hey ill unplug the 4 wire plug that goes to the shifter and that was the problem does this mean i need a new ESA?? or is it the swithces?? i get 12v power, every thing is clean thanks in advanced

I had the exact same problem and the issue was that I wasn't getting enough spark. When I unplugged the 2 pin ESA connector, the problem stopped. The ESA may be drawing power that is slowing you down, or the switches could be the problem. You should test the switches first to see if they are causing the problem. What year is your boat? Do you have the original ignition system. What is your coil voltage when the boat is running and in gear?

It seams like this might be a switch problem, instead of an ESA problem, because you say when you unplugged the 4 pin connector, the problem stopped.

i do have the original ignition and how do i test the switches are they suppose to be engaged while in gear??
