OMC 800 Impeller installation

I just took apart my OMC 800 to install a new water impeller kit. I went ahead and bought the full kit. The trouble is that the impeller that came in the kit will not fit into the assembly unless you bend all the ends back and then press it in the housing. My old one was the same way. Is that correct?

The answer is "yes"!! Now, if you don't have a service manual to help you put this thing back together(correctly, since you have never done this before), you should!!

I do have a service manual, but it did not show the impeller being bent in order to fit. I have been following the manual item by item and now that I understand that the impeller must have each of the ends bent to fit into the housing, I can proceed with the re-install.<br />When I went to put the impeller in with out bending it, i thought this is never going to fit, or the sent the wrong parts with this kit!<br />Thanks for the reply, and piece of mind.
