omc 800 shift cable stuck in housing

while trying to remove my outdrive i cannot get the shift cable to budge out of the housing leading to the inside of the boat.i have removed some corrosion from the water side of the cable.am i looking at cutting the cables or is ther something that softens or removes the corrosion

You did disconnect the shift cable from the shift box on the back of the engine, right? And remove the clip on the intermed housing that holds the cable in? Sometimes they have too much sealer around that area. Try spraying it down with PB Buster or Liquid Wrench and let it soak for a while, maybe.<br /><br />Good luck!<br /><br />Tom
