I'm using this sketch to machine an alignment tool for my '88 4.3L OMC Cobra.

My question:

1. Is it necessary to turn the second diameter from 1.375" down to 1.150" x 2.750" length for the OMC Cobra?

2. How long should the overall length of the alignment tool be, end to end?

Re: OMC Alignment Tool

When I started R+Ring the Cobra on my boat I just bought the standard Merc Volvo OMC Sierra alignment bar and it works just fine...

Re: OMC Alignment Tool

Don, thanks so much for the link.

I'll finish up the machining tomorrow so that I'll be able to align the motor.

BTW, by just looking at the OMC drive shaft, it doesn't appear that the second diameter of 1.150" x 2.750" long is really necessary to turn down. But just in case, in the future someone might need to use this tool to align their Merc out drive so I'll turn it down anyway ;)

UPDATE: 2/19 I finished machining the tool and just used it to align the motor and transom plate after re-install them back on the boat. Worked out great!
