I have a 2004 Johnson 90 hp Jet motor. All of a sudden ..it started cutting out when giving it gas. Inadvertantly I hit the trim switch and when it is engaged the motor starts to run ok. I replaced the tilt and trim switch. took it out and the new switch didn't fix it. I unhooked the tilt and trim switch to see if it would run ok
but it didn't Hooked it back up and it runs fine when depressing the trim switch continually in the down position. It runs goood if you depress the trim switch up
also but of course the motor comes out of the water.. Help please It is an binacle control switch with tilt and trim

My first thought is gremlins, pesky things that are real hard to find much less catch

Other then that I lean toward corrosion and/or bad connection. Being an outboard, any kind of grounding can start killing the motor. Applying trim up or down is somehow removing a ground source and applying power.

I'm just taking a WAG but I would start looking at connectons
