OMC/BRP System Check Question

I have a 1997 Johnson 9.9 hp High Thrust 4 stroke motor (model: J10FRELEUA), and I have a question about the OMC system check feature. I was looking to install a tach, and noticed the "System Check" models that also give warnings to low oil, overheat, fuel flow restriction, and no oil conditions. Upon further looking, I realized that my motor is supposedly pre-wired for system check...now for the question(s). How does it all hook up? Do I need a separate harness or wiring kit? Any info that I could get would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Re: OMC/BRP System Check Question

Low Oil and No oil are for 2 cycle motors only. Sound like you need a service manual or at least an owners manual to figure out if it is compatable. Normally the smaller motors do not have fuel restriction alarms. I have no idea if you have a overheat alarm either.

Do you have the 8 pin duel inline connector in your wiring harness? That would connect to a System Check tach.

I don't see one...in fact, the only open connector that I can find under the cowling (haven't looked that hard) is a 6 pin Deutsch connector. I was under the assumption that I would have to buy a harness for it (see this eBay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200641498301&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT) Like I said, according to the sales literature for that year, it's pre-wired for it...however, it doesn't sound like it gives me too much of an advantage over a regular tach if it doesn't utilize 75% of the features. Thought it would be nice to idiot proof it a little though. I'll have to do some more looking under the cowling when I get a chance to see if I can't figure something out. I
