Hello. I have a 1986 Rinker V-170 with a 140HP 4 cyl OMC 3.0L Cobra I/O. I threw a gear in the lower unit, and need a new/used one. I have found a 1993 OMC 3.0L Cobra I/O lower unit, but am not sure if they are interchangeable. Please advise.

Howdy,

The 93 is most likely a Dog-clutch.

does it look like the one in the following graphic? (93 3.0L Cobra parts graphic from Doug Russell parts)

If it looks like the above it should fit.

You do have another MUCH better choice now though.

You can get a conversion kit from SEI and get a brand new drive with a 3 year warranty.....and if I'm not mistaken, you can buy it right here on iBoats!!

It's a much better choice over an obsolete used drive....

Cheers,

I know where a complete 1987 3.0 Cobra drive is.Good shape too..
PM me and i can put you in touch with the guy.

The SEI drive is a great option too if you decide to do the conversion.

Thanks for the replies. I unfortunately don't have it, but HERE it is on eBay if you can tell anything by looking at it...

Thanks

Re: OMC Cobra 1986 to 1993 compatibility

Thanks, unfortunately, I don't have new drive money. I have old drive money :)

Sometimes "Old Drive Money" ends up being more than "New Drive Money"

That's a relative thing..... I sold my Previous 1987 King Cobra Dog-clutch drive for $1450 and the buyer paid the shipping.

You can buy a "new new new in the box" SEI drive for about the same money and you're not getting a used drive with NO warranty that might just fail on the first lap around the lake!

I have bought a LOT of stuff from ebay and have never been "skunked". But I do know it happens all the time.

Good luck,

Rick
