I have a omg cobra 3.0 the out drive gets stuck in forward when in the up position at that point I have no reverse but works normal when fully down. Is this possibly a faults switch on the side of the drive?

Howdy,

I would bet on the lower shift cable being the problem. Something is moving when the drive is trimmed up.....enough to move the cable or cable housing etc.

There's no "faults" switch anywhere on the drive. Cobras only have a tilt indication. There's no limit switch. If you want to fix it yourself, get an OEM OMC service manual for your model. (each year is somewhat different) Also, have a look at the following. http://www.hastings.org/~stuart/cobra/

Yes. Drive removal is easy. Buy the special tools for adjusting the shift cable on eBay.

Thanks for everyones help I just want to make sure I get this right so I do not trash my drive I have heard that will happen right away if it is not done correctly.

Um, yes. The OMC service manual. You just have to find one though. I paid about $100 for mine when I found it on EBAY.

A lot of the service techs that do this stuff for a living don't like the Seloc or Clymer manuals much. They are pretty good for starting your woodstove though......

I'll suggest again reading through the info posted online by Stuart Hastings. He's got one of the more comprehensive readings on the Cobra including info on adjustments. You have to read through it though. OMC Cobra Sterndrive Tech Info

Also do a search for Midnight Wolf, he is a member here and sells tools made to adjust the shift cable. On his website he has updated instructions for installing the cable and adjusting it with the tools. The instructions are all from the OE OMC manuals in PDF format.
