Re: OMC cobra gearbox problem

Stalling going into gear could be a cable,Could be a shift interupt switch.Or the bellcrank.Get a parts diagram.
I'd start with the cable first.Remove the drive. The shift mechanism is on the right. It's called the bellcrank,it gets gummed up and won't move right.Take it apart.Remember how it came apart.Check the shifter for the cable if it's working right.Load it with grease and re-assemble.Try this,it might help.Jerry

Howdy,

Please be more specific on the year, model and series.

Depending on the year model, there's 2 different Cobra types that were used with the FORD 5.8L engine.

Sorry about that, this is becoming more and more the "rule" instead of the "exception"......

You should have a look here

http://www.hastings.org/~stuart/cobra/

A good read

The cable runs though a sleeve... You have removed the outdrive right?

I recommend you post the year of your set up and engine type in your profile signature.. Makes getting answers a bit easier..

I am so grateful that when they installed my engine and outdrive from the factory that they left the gauges they use to get it right in a folder and the PO kept all that stuff..
Makes it real nice and takes a lot of guess work out of adjustment...

Good luck bud
