So I bought a an old 1986 Seaswirl Corsair with the 4.3 OMC Cobra. I used it for a few weeks this summer and the last time I used it, as I was backing away from dock, I heard and felt a thumping noise that matched the engine RPM. I killed the motor and used the kicker to get to the dock. Pulled the stern drive off and found a busted U Joint. Ordered those and also got the bellows and gimbal bearing kit. How do I get the gimbal bearing out? Looks like some sort of thrust washer or retainer that is holding it in. Slide hammer ain't doing anything. I'll try to attach a picture if I can get it small enough.

Thanks. I appreciate the redirect, but it doesn't say anything about that retainer or washer or whatever that is in front of the bearing. That piece isn't even in my parts breakdown. So I am assuming that it will come out with the bearing? In the picture i attached it is the washer looking deal with 2 rounded grooves. One at about 12:00 and the other at the 6:00 positions.

That whole assembly is going to pull out. The ring on the outside is the carrier for the bearing in the center that is allowed to swivel.

This is what it looks like when not installed:

Awesome. Thanks. Still waiting on Amazon to ship me my new one. That's a way better picture.
