OMC Cobra lower unit oil change question

I have a 1994 OMC Cobra (302ccpmda) and I attempted to change the lower unit oil over the weekend. It appears to have one drain screw at the bottom and one at the top with a dip stick. Do I refill from the bottom?

No...there is another one about half way up on the side of the drive.
That is the fill plug.
Fill very slow with the dipstick just resting on the threads until it shows full.
It should hold at least 64 ounces.

A 94 could be a SX drive....need to know what one.....

I could not find another screw half way up? There looked to be some type of pin going all the way through???

Does the top of the drive where the dipstick is have a flat square cover or does it have a hump to it?

If the top cover that is held on with 4 bolts is flat and the dipstick is in the center of it you have the standard Cobra.
It does have a center fill screw, starboard side just above the anti-ventilation plate...

Thanks for the link, but, I could not find the upper drain screw/plug. Is it possible I have a different outdrive? The OMC product number is 3868029.

Sounds like SX drive-shift linkage pivot pin.

94 was when they started switching to SX drives...That is why i asked if the top cover was flat or had a hump to it.

I posted this in another thread, but believe it applies here as well. Hopefully these pics will clear up some confusion concerning the different drives.

Below is the older COBRA drive (fill from the middle hole)

Below is the Cobra SX drive (with the hump) and it is filled from the bottom.

I hope that helps! If you find you have the SX cobra drive, do yourself a favor and get some Volvo Penta manuals (they are identical drives) for your model.

Thanks. I will double check when I am at the cottage this weekend but I think I have the older Cobra. If I recall correctly, where you show the upper drive oil screw I have a smaller screw that appears to be bolt. When I tried to take it out I could see the end of the screw (on the other side of drive) spinning around.

Okay, at the cottage and verified that it is a SX so I guess I need to find some type of fitting so that I can screw into the bottom drain screw and pump in the oil?

Most any marine supply (including here on iBoats) can sell you a drive lube pump. It's abut $10 and fits into the quart-size lube bottles; you pump it like a squirt bottle with a plunger on top.

Walmart,Autozone and most any parts stores have the pumps for about 6 bucks....should be easy to find one.
