Re: OMC cobra problems again.
YES............ The 454 (7.4L) Cobra was first offered in 90. Also the first year for the King-Cone. They were side by side with the 460 for 1 year. (no 460/7.5L in 91) http://epc.brp.com
It is repairable.
Just make sure the "mechanic" KNOWS what he's doing........there's a LOT out there that don't!! ( A Four Winns dealer filled mine with oil like a Mercruiser and the drive was destroyed very quickly)
If your mechanic changed/refilled the oil in the drive, ask him how he filled it.!
OK...I knew there were dog clutch King Cobras but I thought they were during a different time. Were the King Cobras that were attached to the 7.4L(Chevy) engines all cone clutch modeles? I think that is where I was confused.
There was a time many years ago that I was thinking about buying one of these. This was just after OMC went out of business.

You're describing either a binding cable or binding linkage or (internal binding in the drive/transom ...........you hope not)Im pretty sure the ESA was working properly, it would stumble when shifting, but when going from reverse to forward it would take alot of force to put it back in forward or nuetral. So im thinking it just needs more adjusting, cable wise.if not, anybody out there want to buy a stratos.
