OMC Control box locked

I have an 86 30 hp johnson with the controls locked. I'm sure it is due to the start up lever on the top of the side mount box. It has lots of wobble. Something must be worn and it is working like it should when you start up and it locks the shifter and throttle out. Anyone know of a fix? Thanks in advance, ohenry

Re: OMC Control box locked

Hi Ohenry... Probably going to have to just tear into the control box to find the problem...

Before you tear into the box, disconnect the cables from the engine and test the throttle and shift linkage on the engine for any binding... Cable could be froze up? Also good time to test the control box when its not hooked to the engine...

The control boxes are'nt too awful complicated as long as you go slow and take your time...

A digital camera would be a good tool here because you could snap a few pictures as you dis-assemble the box so you have a reference should you have a problem re-assembling the box...

Good luck..

Thanks Snapperbait, I'll disconnect the cables and make sure the throttle and shift lever are working okay first. I can open up the box, but I doubt I would spot any trouble unless something is just flat out broken. Thanks for the tips, ohenry
