Has anybody tried to remove whatever is inside the remote control that stops the throttle from moving while the fast start lever is raised. Its hard to tell looking at a parts diagrahm. I dont want to take the thing apart if its pretty much impossible to do. 83 model side control for a 140. I have a jet foot. I am aware of why it was designed this way. with the jet and a cold natured motor in a lot of river current it would be very helpful to be able to get on with it and lower the fast start after you are moving. There is no gears to tear up in a jet so its not like drop shifting a boat with a regular lower unit.

Also if the manual interlock is really difficult to get around maybe i can wire around the kill switch inside the controller that doesn allow the starter to pick up while the throttle is raised. Any thoughts???

Sounds like you have a a mtr prob if it won't idle with the warm up lever down. Jet or not it should still idle.

Re: OMC Control interlock bypass?????

It will idle once it warms up. No motor problems. It is very hot and humid here which is not very condusive to combustion and the jet is direct drive to the motor output which puts a higher strain on the motor than a normal lower unit because of the added drag at idle. it is always in gear. Not really interested in rejetting carb or anything like that. My problem will be solved if i get around the original design of the controls that lock out the throttle/shift lever on the controls. my throttle lever is just that, a throttle. it doesnt shift anything but a flap on the outside of the jet for forward and reverse.
