..on my '85 30hp Johnson Evinrude outboard.
The ignition switch housing cracked and the tumbler kept rotating so I couldn't start my boat. Luckily I was close enough to shore for my elect trolling motor. A neighbor was kind enough to give me an old contoller he had in his shed so I thought why not. It's an OMC but with tiller which my motor doesn't have. I installed each piece of the replacement control as I disassembled the original. It looked like a good instal but when I went to turn it over...nothing.
There's a thin gauge wire about 8 inches dangling from the accessory (?) plug just below the tensioning knob below the key. Would that have anything to do with it since it s not hooked up to anything ?
The spot where the emergency kill switch where the lanyard goes seems gummed up with silicone ...
Finally - the exposed end for the tiller to plug into I was just going to electric tape over.
Please advise.
