Hello all. My controller (connected to a 1995 40 hp Johnson) started acting flaky last season. Up until then it short chirped every time I turned the key on. Now it chirps occasionally when turned to on but doesn't chirp most of the time. I've never had the controller apart before but I think it's time. Hoping you can tell me what to be looking for to fix this problem.
Thanks in advance. Rick.

Clean every ground you can find first. At key switch, remote control, engine, battery.

You probably need a new warning horn and they are not cheap. They are around $100 for that horn. Ask the mod to combine your 2 posts.

Well I've checked all the grounds. It has been working well the past few trips but now I found the problem. The warning horn ground is the problem. It's not making a solid connection right inside the switch. I can push the wire one way and get nothing move it a little and it works every time. Problem is its behind the resin where it's bad. Anyway my switch is # 585993. I've been looking on the net and keep seeing 585992. Anyone know if the latter will be an acceptable solution or are there several numbers that would work? It's a snug fit for sure so the replacement would need to be the same configuration. Also, mine is the horn that test sounds when ignition is turned on. Thanks, Rick.

Any competant dealer should be able to get you the correct part number. My microfiche reader broke so I cant help. Also, part numbers get superseded from time to time so my old numbers are not reliable.
